This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
Regarded as the "Golden Era" of the National Hockey League, taking place between 1942 and 1967, the era of the "Original Six", featuring the six (6) teams of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers would produce numerous Hockey Hall of Fame inductees, including some of the best players the game has ever seen. With Montreal winning ten (10) of twenty-five (25) Stanley Cups during the era, the Maple Leafs would hoist the trophy nine (9) times and Detroit five (5), with the last won by the Black Hawks, their lone victory coming in 1961. Offered here, we present this autograph booklet that includes a sheet on the interior that has been team-signed by members of the 1948-49 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs. A well loved, brown coloured book with "Autographs" appearing over the front over that measures roughly 6 1/4" x 5 1/4", wear is observed to both the front and back covers plus the spine, with the latter now virtually non existent and lost to time. Additionally, a pen notation appears near the top of the front cover as well along with tattering and small rips to the edges and a tape stain at the left edge. Featuring all kinds of signatures on the interior from friends and sports figures, including a team signed sheet from the 1949-50 Toronto Maple Leafs baseball club and a single page signed by Conn Smythe, it is worth mentioning that the Smythe signature has been done in blue fountain pen ink that displays without issue and appears over the last page of the book with some other autographs appearing over the reverse side of the same page as well. For the sheet signed by the Maple Leafs, nineteen (19) have penned their signatures over the faded yellow colour sheet in a mix of black and blue inks from either a fountain or ballpoint pen. Featuring the signatures of deceased HOFers Day (coach), Watson, Bentley, Kennedy and Broda as well as others including Taylor, Klukay, Sloan, Barilko, Metz, Meeker, Timgren, Mortson, Lynn, Ezinicki, Thomson, Gardner, Juzda and Boesch with all the autographs displaying without issue. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
