A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Tod Sloan spent the majority of his Original Six-era career in Toronto, and represented the Canadian national team at the IIHF World Championship in 1962 before retiring. This multi-signed stick saw use by Sloan in 1954-55. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, “9” is handwritten directly beneath the knob, with “15” also written and rubbed slightly lower down the shaft. Sporting stamps on both sides of the shaft from team supplier Love & Bennett/Brown’s Sports, the black blade and knob tape is intact, with heavy game-use exhibited, with numerous puck and stick marks to the blade and shaft including red and blue paint transfer along with a couple cracks to the blade. A dozen Leafs have signed in pencil, including deceased HOFers Tim Horton, Harry Lumley and Ted Kennedy.
Along with the aforementioned Tim Horton signature which is somewhat light but displays admirably, pencil signatures are present from George Armstrong, Ted Kennedy, Sid Smith, Harry Lumley, Ron Stewart, Larry Cahan, Jim Morrison, Brian Cullen, Jim Thomson, Rudy Migay and one other, with this combination of players only appearing together in 1954-55. We should also note that the stick was presented to us as a George Armstrong model, and despite a tape job that matches examples used by Armstrong, the handwritten “15” beneath the knob signifies use by Sloan.
