Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
"From failing hands to you we throw, the torch, be yours to hold it high." Those famous words, from a poem written by John McCrae during World War I, were stenciled to the wall of the Montreal Canadiens' dressing room at the old Montreal Forum and were joined by the images of great Canadien players, to act as motivational inspiration for the then current day players, or torch-bearers. This is the quarter-inch thick piece that featured the picture of Habs trusty 1940s netminder Bill Durnan. The unique memorabilia on masonite-type wood is bigger than life-size at approximately 8 ½” x 12”, with a pair of pin holes present along with velcro on the reverse from a prior mounting. Also included is the Durnan 1 ¼” x 8 ½” nameplate, with “1964”, the year of his HOF induction.
