Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

A “changing of the guard” in New York baseball would soon occur so to speak, with the 1949 Fall Classic being one of the very last for longtime Yankee superstar Joe D, with a handsome young heavy hitter from Oklahoma soon to make his mark in the Big Apple. The 1949 Series was also the first of five consecutive championships for the Bombers, a feat accomplished by no other club. We have a 1949 New York Yankees World Series Championship 14K gold salesman's sample ring that celebrates that achievement. Size 10 ½ with an approx weight of 30 grams, a single large zirconia sits centered on the tableau over twin laurel wreaths, encompassed by a double-oval border with “New York Yankees” inserted above, and “World Champions” below. A raised Yankees logo over a bed of wreaths grace each shank along with “1949”, with “Balfour 14K” engraved onto the inner band.
Light wear is present over the outer band, with a few tiny nicks along edges. The ring could also use a light cleaning. A ring box from Balfour will also accompany.
