Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Scheduling a "doubleheader" for the All-Star contest to help boost the players' pension fund, two MLB All-Star games were actually played in 1959, with the NL winning the first contest on July 7th at Forbes Field 5-4, while the AL took home the second victory 5-3, on Aug 3rd. Hailing from the personal collection of Nellie Fox, we have a baseball signed by the AL participants in one of those contests. An Official American League ball with faded stampings, 27 have signed in blue ink including Fox, along with Mantle, Williams, Berra, Kaline, Killebrew, Ford, Wynn and others. “59 A.S.” has been written on the ball in Fox’s hand, with even toning, with the majority of the signatures displaying well, with some examples a bit lighter. An LOA from the Fox family will accompany.
The Mantle displays well with just a few somewhat light areas, including at the end of “Mickey” and at the beginning of “Mantle”. The Williams is dark, possibly gone over by Ted originally due to a weak pen. Additional signers include Power, Kuenn, Stengel, Colavito, Pierce, Bunning, Aparicio and others. We should also note a faint stain to the ball, with this doing little to affect the signatures.
