Highly prized amongst collectors and historians, the work of noted lensman and longtime Canadiens photographer David Bier spans almost half a century, with his work considered at the top of its tier. We have a large desirable collection of Bier negatives and photos totaling north of 440, with a number of highlights included. First, we have 315 2 1/4" color negatives, 52 2 1/4" B&W negatives, 7 4 1/2" x 7" B&W negatives and 12 8"x10" B&W negatives including a 1952-53 Habs team photo. This is followed by 8"x10" B&W negatives for Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau (4), Boom Boom Geoffrion and Dickie Moore, along with a 5” x 7” studio portrait of Toe Blake complete with embossed Bier stamp and presentation folder. The additional photos include 4" x 6 1/4" black and white photos (Plante, Moore, Harvey) and 41 4 1/2" x 7" proof photos (Beliveau, Worsley, Geoffrion, Blake), with each having “Rough Proof” stamped over the image.
The majority of the negatives remain in very good condition, with the photos and proofs just exhibiting corner wear for the most part, with each having a David Bier stamp over the reverse. Included in the 4" x 6 1/4" black and white photos along with Plante (3), Moore and Doug Harvey, we have Geoffrion, Rousseau, MacNeil, Provost, Harper, G. Tremblay and Henri Richard. For the 4 1/2" x 7" proof photos, along with Beliveau (3 different), Worsley (2 different), Geoffrion (3 different) and Toe Blake (3-2 different), we have Ferguson (3 different), Talbot (2 different), Provost (2 different), Roberts (2 different), Cournoyer (2 different), G. Tremblay (2 different) and Jacques Lapperiere.
