Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

A Conn Smythe Trophy winner and Stanley Cup champion all before his rookie season, Ken Dryden appeared in just 6 regular-season contests for the Montreal Canadiens in 1970-71, with his 1.65 GAA enough to be chosen to represent the Habs during the playoffs. From his inaugural campaign with Montreal, we have a stick issued for Dryden’s use that has been team-signed by the 1971 Stanley Cup-champion Canadiens. A Sher-Wood Pattern Pro model, “Dryden” appears stamped over the upper shaft, with the majority of the striping accents over the paddle intact. There is also “30371” handwritten along the side of the paddle, with this possibly a date code. 21 have signed the backside paddle and blade in black marker, including Dryden, along with fellow HOF members Richard, Lapointe, Lemaire, Mahovlich, Laperriere, Savard and Rogie Vachon.
The additional signers include Tremblay, P. Mahovlich, Tardiff, Larose, Harper, Roberto, Houle, Bouchard, Murdoch and Phil Myre. The majority of the signatures have bled into the fiberglass, with a number hard to decipher. The stick also exhibits some age/storage wear, with some chipping to the fiberglass over the upper paddle, along with some tape residue over the shaft.
