Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A product of both the Saskatoon Blades and Calgary Wranglers of the old WCHL, Mel Hewitt would be drafted 92nd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft but never play for the club or in the National Hockey League, instead spending his entire professional career in minor leagues such as the IHL and AHL. Offered here, we present this Maine Mariners jersey worn by Hewitt during his only season with the club in 1982-83. Made by Sandow SK and featuring a washed out label affixed to the inner collar above a washing instructions tag, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "54" and has had the "Sandow SK" wordmark logo screened over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a Mariners team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso of the mesh constriction offering have had Hewitt's number "11" sewn to them in dual layer tackle twill numerals while "Hewitt" is spelt out in single layer black twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Sporting an intact loop style fight strap on interior as well as pilling, good game-wear is observed via board burns and unrepaired holes over both sleeves as well as light stick marks to the left sleeve and numbers on the reverse with it also worth pointing out that the first "1" on the reverse has been repaired/reattached at the bottom with a hastily done stitching job done by a team trainer. Of note, some spot stains are present over the lower front.
