Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Awesome piece of hockey history is Maurice Richard’s 1950-51 Montreal Canadiens signed NHL Standard Player’s Contract. In addition to the Rocket’s signature are those of fellow deceased HOFers Donat Raymond, who signed as president of “Club de Hockey Canadien” and is a scarce autograph, and NHL president Clarence Campbell. Raymond signed in black fountain pen ink above Richard’s signature on the contract dated September 26, 1950, and Campbell signed in black fountain pen ink on the front. The 8 1/2" x 17" contract indicates that Richard was paid $14,000 for the 1950-51 season. Richard’s 42 goals, one behind Gordie Howe for the league lead, earned him $1,700 in bonuses based on the typewritten clauses that stipulated he was to receive $1,000 for scoring 35 and $100 for every additional goal.
The well-preserved contract, which displays the “Sep 28 ’50” Central Registry stamp, has various horizontal fold creases. There is a diagonal crease on the bottom right of the verso running through the first portion of the Raymond and Richard signatures that does not diminish their display.
