Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2013

The NHL's first 500-goal scorer, Maurice "Rocket" Richard had already blown past that milestone when he notched his 524th regular season goal with this stick midway through the 1958-59 season. The Rocket beat fellow HOFer Lorne "Gump" Worsley for his 16th goal of the season 3:11 into the third period of the Canadiens' 5-1 win over the Rangers at the old Montreal Forum. "M. Richard" and the Rocket's legendary number "9" are stamped on the shaft with a faint "524" handwritten in pencil below Maurice's original tape job on the knob. Richard's tape job partially remains on the blade, which is cracked at the heel and chipped along the bottom edge with several age cracks at the toe. Great game use shows in big black marks low on the shaft. Awesome piece of hockey history wielded by the man whose name and likeness live on in the NHL's annual goal-scoring trophy. Comes with an LOA from the stick's original owner, who received it from Maurice Richard.
