Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
An especially attractive style that made its debut on Oct 3rd 1997 when Vancouver defeated Anaheim, we have a signed and photo-matched Canucks jersey with the then-new colour scheme and popular “Orca” crest that was worn by superstar Mark Messier during the first of the two "Game ONe Japan" contests. A CCM label graces the collar along with a “56” size tag, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the aforementioned Canucks team crest with embroidered detailing, the white V-neck has been accented with textured tri-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the 1998 All-Star Game crest over the right breast, and "Game ONe Japan" crest over the left shoulder. A COA from the Vancouver Canucks will accompany.
Dark marks are visible over the sleeves and front, with a few large stick marks over the front band. There are also a few faint burns over the left sleeve. Messier has signed between the reverse numbers, adding a large and flowing black marker signature that displays well. Getty Image #691548144 has been matched to the burgundy thread located on the top edge of the 2nd "1" of "11" on the right sleeve, while screen captures from video of the Oct 3rd contest show the fold line on the right sleeve of the jersey, but the image is not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match. The games were played at Tokyo's Yoyogi Arena and they were the first games ever played outside of North America that counted in the regular-season standings.
