Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Popular with collectors due in part to the fact that the ninety-eight card checklist includes many early Hockey Hall of Fame members making appearances, the 1910-11 Imperial Tobacco C60 lacrosse set is one of three lacrosse based releases issued by the company, and is a nearly identical copy to the C59 set. Offered here, we present a C60 lacrosse near set (94/98), missing just cards 26, 32, 40 and 41 for completion. The hockey HOFers in the set include 16-Gorman, 18-Hutton, 68-Ion, 75-Moran, 90-Cattarinich and 97-Lalonde, while the lacrosse HOFers include 56-Gifford, 58-G. Spring, 59-C. Spring, 65-Feeney and 66-J. Gifford. There are also hockey players, with 15-Currie, 20-Powers, 22-Butterworth, 26-McMillan, 32-Degan, 38-Allen, 48-McKerrow and 85-Jeff Malone. The condition average for the near set is G to VG (all cards have corner wear, approx 20 cards have discolouration or stains on the reverse, and card #85 has paper loss on the reverse). Noteworthy cards in the VG to VG/EX range include #16 Gorman (top left corner and border wear), #59 G. Spring (light ride side border chipping), #65 Feeney (discolouration on back), and #90 Cattarinch (light corner wear). In the G to G+ range are #42 Burns (discolouration on back), #56 T. Gifford (rounded corners), and #75 Moran (front and back surface wear), while in the POOR to FAIR range are #66 J. Gifford (surface damage) and #68 Ion (small paper loss corner and border, discolouration on back). Rounding out the near set, card #18 Hutton is POOR (paper loss top right corner), #58 G. Spring is G to VG- (bottom border chipping) and card #97 Lalonde is FAIR to GOOD (front and reverse surface wear and rounded corners).
