Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
With approx 95% of Canadians said to have peanuts or peanut butter in their households throughout much of the 20th century, the product was ideal to market hockey premiums to boys from coast to coast, with York Peanut Butter wisely taking advantage of this during the 1960s, marketing a number of hockey promotions throughout the decade. This lot contains a 1967-68 York Peanut Butter hockey card near complete set of 35/36 (missing just Vachon/Backstrom/Pulford), plus 2 extras, along with a pair of Frank Mahovlich 1962-63 York iron-on transfers. With the overall condition for the near set in the VG/EX to EX range (many cards have light corner wear with a small amount of discolouration on each reverse), the exceptions cards in the EX to EX/MT range including #18 Worsley/Mahovlich (light border wear), #24 Tremblay/Worsley, and #28 Cournoyer/Beliveau (slight border and corner wear), followed by cards in the VG to VG/EX range including #21 Ferguson/Horton (discolouration on back, tiny stain top border), #23 Bower/Beliveau (print marks bottom right border), and Horton/Beliveau (light discolouration on back, corner wear). Next, in the G to VG range we have #25 Horton/Bower/Beliveau (tiny crease with border wear and slight discolouration) and #35 Mahovlich/Worsley (discolouration on back). Lastly, card #31 Horton/Vachon is in the EX/MT to EX/MT+ range (very slight corner and border wear). The 2 extras are cards #18 and #35. The Mahovlich transfers are both still sealed in the original cellophane with no issues visible.
