Coming off of a phenomenal rookie season that him win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League’s rookie of the year, Auston Matthews had an equally impressive sophomore season despite missing 20 games over the course of the year, registering 63 points in 62 games played. Hailing from the 2017-18 season, we offer this stick used by Matthews, which has been signed by him and photo-matched to Toronto's January 16th, 2018 contest against the St. Louis Blues. A Bauer Nexus 1N model with “Matthews” factory graphics over the shaft, the lower shaft has been blacked-out, common for this model of stick used by Matthews his first couple NHL seasons. Retaining its original white cloth finished at the bottom with white blade tape tape job around the handle/knob, Matthews' number "34" appears over the front and backsides in black marker while a small cross has been penned over the backside as well in matching ink. Featuring a combination white-over-black tape job around the blade, differing from what is seen in the photo-matches, likely indicating that the stick was reused/retaped for practice use, the stick shows evidence of use via red marks over the handle tape, chipping to the black spray paint over the lower shaft, various marks/abrasions throughout the lower shaft, heel and blade and puck marks over both sides of the applied blade tape, Matthews has signed over the forehand side of the heel with a silver marker ink signature that appears light from age. Appearing free from any cracks or breaks, the stick is photo-matched with Getty Image #905793876 (January 16th, 2018 vs St. Louis) to the mark/scuff seen just above the heel on the forehand side which is found underneath the penned autograph.
