Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025

Upping the pack price to 15 cents in 1977-78, ending the seven-year 10-cents-a-pack era, kids discovered 12 cards per pack instead of 8 like in the previous year, along with a glossy insert and of course, a stick of gum. We offer a 1977-78 O-Pee-Chee wax box with 48 unopened packs. The wrappers feature a Ken Dryden-like rendition, while the 396-card set’s roster is led by Orr, Dryden, Lafleur and Trottier, with a couple of Mikes, Palmateer and Milbury, tops among the over four dozen rookie cards. With a Capitals vs. Sabres-like depiction on the top, the offered box exhibits some corner wear, with the original clear tape on the box lid visible. There are a couple small creases to the right panel and on the underside, and light surface wear/residue on the bottom left corner of the box lid. Recently inspected and certified by the unopened specialists at Baseball Card Exchange, the company’s shrink wrap now surrounds the prize, with a label, hologram and certification number applied to the bottom of the box along with "Unopened Wax Box". A loose pack is also included.
