Perhaps the most famous player to ever wear the famed bleu, blanc et rouge sweater of the Montreal Canadiens and definitely on the franchises "Mount Rushmore" of legends, Maurice Richard would play his entire career with Montreal, becoming the most ferocious goal scorer the game had ever seen at that point, taking over the National Hockey League record on held by Nels Stewart on November 8th, 1952 against the Chicago Black Hawks with the 325th goal of his career. Adding an additional 219 goals before hanging up his skates at the conclusion of the 1959-60 season, Richard would retire with a total of eight (8) Stanley Cup championships under his belt and be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961. The first non-politician to be honoured by the province of Quebec with a state funeral after his death in 2000, offered here is this Hat Trick Trophy and Ashtray presented to Rocket at some point in the 1950s by Dow Brewery. Having been produced by the Quebec based brewery throughout the decade and presented to players who managed to light the lamp three (3) times in a single game, the award was present to Maurice on occasion of one of his numerous three (3) goal nights. A unique award that measures roughly 9 1/2" wide by 9" in height, a mounted puck reading "Trophee - Trophy" is present along with an arm/hand tipping a top hat. With the original glass ashtray still present, the piece remains in good condition with light-to-moderate wear throughout that is worthy of recognition, observed mostly throughout the wooden base. Additionally, the ashtray has yellowed as well. Originally hailing from Richard's personal collection and accompanied by an LOA signed by Maurice's children Maurice Jr. and Norman, a photo of the 1961 HHOF inductee accepting the piece will also be included.
