Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

“The Say Hey Kid”, Willie Mays would see himself win the only World Series championship of his career the year his 1954 Topps card was issued, falling at #90 in the 250-card set with this copy of Mays’ 4th year cardboard having earned a grade of GOOD 2 after it’s inspection at PSA headquarters. Displaying off-center top-to-bottom with some surface wear over the front, the write up on the back tells the tale of Mays having missed the previous two years due to time spent in armed forces while the comic at the bottom of the reverse details one of his amazing outfield plays, surly a foreshadow for what would become known as “The Catch” during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series at the Polo Grounds versus the Cleveland Indians. A spectacular offering picturing the 1954 batting champ and NL MVP, the card is housed in a PSA holder that shows light scratches and scuffs over both sides that are worth noting.
