The fifth and final Canada Cup tournament, the competition would see the Canadian’s go undefeated to win its namesake trophy by taking down the United States 2-0 in the best of three final series. Canada’s golden boy, Wayne Gretzky, led the way for the hosts, registering 12 points in 7 games. Offered here, is this collection of memorabilia hailing from the tournament including a team-signed poster, program and sheets (4) along with additional items and paraphernalia. Starting with a framed Labatt’s poster signed by 22 members of Team Canada in ballpoint pen including Gretzky, Yzerman and Belfour, the autographs display with some lightness from fading due to age. Measuring approx. 14” x 27” with framed dimensions of approx. 15” x 28”, the poster shows light wear and some liquid staining to the top right corner. An additional copy of the poster is included, this one unframed and in similar condition, that has only been signed by four (4) in black marker that has faded heavily including Bellows, Oates, Burke and Wendel Clark. Additional autographed items include a program also signed by 22 members of Team Canada in bold black marker including Gretzky, Belfour, Yzerman, Clark, Thomas, Burke, McSorley, Gartner, Goulet, Robitaille, Cavallini, Leeman and Riendeau among others that remains in good condition with the autos displaying well, and four (4) sheets of paper also signed by Team Canada players. Signed in ballpoint pens and featuring a various number of signatures on each sheet, with one including Wayne Gretzky, the autographs continue to display well. The last three items rounding out the group include a Team Canada training jacket made by Starter that remains in good condition and shows just a couple of marks on the sleeves while being tagged a size “L”, a framed team photo from training camp that measures full dimensions of 24 ½” x 20” and a training camp manual, schedule and additional documentation detailing the inner workings of the hockey club.
Lorne Goldenberg has worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks, Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Windsor Spitfires, and the Ottawa 67s. He lectures internationally on a variety of topics, including stability ball exercises and ground-based sport conditioning, for groups such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Society of Weight Training Injury Specialists, provincial associations, and professional teams. He has written for the NSCA Journal of Strength and Conditioning, Ironman, Physical, Men’s Journal, Hockey Life, and Hockey Now.
