Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Marking his arrival to sunny California and Tinseltown in true “Great One” fashion, Wayne Gretzky scored on his first shot during his first shift in his very first contest for the Los Angeles Kings in 1988-89, and would conclude his inaugural American season with 168 points in just 78 regular-season games, more than enough to claim his ninth Hart Memorial as MVP. This signed “royal sceptre” was used by the icon during his first season with the Kings. A Titan TPM2020 model with “W. Gretzky” stamped to the upper shaft with “99” handwritten in blue and slightly faded, the stick retains the original black tape to the blade and gripper over the handle. “1-002” is also stamped to the underside heel, with Wayne adding a dark black marker signature to the lower frontside shaft along with “Good Luck”, with the signature flawless. The stick exhibits moderate game-use with wear to the taped blade including a tear to the underside and a somewhat loose strand near the heel, with a few additional marks to the shaft including areas of light blue paint transfer.
