Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Created with the relocation of the unsuccessful Los Angeles Sharks to the Detroit area following the 1973-74 WHA season, the Michigan Stags lasted a mere 43 games before folding due to financial difficulties in January of 1975. As such, any and all surviving Stags jerseys are especially rare and sought by collectors. This example shows no evidence of a former nameplate, and as we could not find any regular players wearing the number 27 with the team that season, the jersey was likely part of the team's full set and was most likely used in practices. Wilson labeling with “46” sizing sits along the collar, with a multi-coloured and partially-embroidered team crest utilized. “27” in layered tackle twill is sewn to the sleeves and verso, with no nameplate as mentioned. The vintage garment also sports no fight strap. With no alterations visible to the numbers or team crest, they do exhibit light puckering, with a few fabric pulls and stretching to the material, with a couple very small holes present.
