Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

The historic puck was used by legendary superstar Maurice “Rocket” Richard to score his 543rd NHL career goal (including playoffs), and it sits atop this towering vintage perpetual trophy that was originally donated by the Rocket to the Montreal "Transportation Hockey League" to be awarded to the league's most valuable player. Scored on Glenn Hall in the Jan 31, 1957 contest against Gordie Howe and the Detroit Red Wings, with Richard also adding an assist in the 6-3 victory at the Forum, the puck is a two-sides Art Ross Tyer model predating team logos, with “543” and Richard facsimile signature added to brass plates affixed to the front of the puck, with good game-use showing including wear to the logos and chipping to the puck. The trophy stands 22” in height and features a tiered wooden base with mounted columns and generic player serving as finial, with additional players mounted to each side at the base of the columns. A number of brass plaques have been added to the base including the large title plaque with “Trophee Perpetuel don Maurice Richard a la Ligue de Hockey Transportation”, along with 7 mini plaques beneath with the winning player engraved along with the season, ranging from 1956-57 to 1962-63. The trophy does show its age with wear present, with the mounted player at the pinnacle missing the bottom portion of his stick. Originally obtained from the collection of the last player to win the award, this amazing keepsake with historic milestone Rocket goal puck originally gifted by the man himself will please even the most discerning of collectors. An LOA will accompany.
