The 2005-06 campaign was an important season for Ryan Smyth and the Edmonton Oilers. Captain Canada had one of his best seasons with 36 goals and 66 points, and helped lead the Oilers to within one win of the Stanley Cup. This photo-matched alternate captain’s jersey was worn by Smyth in 2005-06. Elite and size “56” labels grace the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok patches on the front and back necklines respectively. Styled with a tackle twill team crest and “14” sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, the alternate’s “A” is positioned over the left breast. Sporting puck and stick marks to the front and sleeves, there is also a bit of red paint transfer to each sleeve, with a small hole over the left elbow. Getty Image #56530546 (Dec 21, 2005) has been matched to the dark marks over the left front of the jersey, while Getty Image #56530548 (Dec 21, 2005) has been matched to the extended thread visible at the top right of the alternate patch on the left shoulder. A MeiGray patch numbered “C03528” resides on the inside hem, and according to the company’s population report, the jersey is a “White Set 2 w/A” specimen. An LOA from the Oilers will accompany.
