The second oldest curling club in Winnipeg after the famous Granite, the Thistle Curling Club began life in 1887, and supported the Manitoba Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club which included Alberta and Saskatchewan clubs. Hailing from the personal collection of noted photography historian Mark Rucker, this rare large-format cabinet photo of the Saskatchewan branch of the R.C.C.C. features the winners of the “Grand Challenge Cup and Grand Aggregate” of the 1908 Regina Bonspiel. Photographed by noted lensman Bryant’s Studio in Winnipeg, the large 11” x 14” photograph pictures the four Saskatchewan curlers including Lead Herb Clare, with the exquisite Grand Challenge Cup shown. Affixed to a 15 ½” x 20” mount with members listed beneath the image, there are stains and general wear to the mount including a tear rectified with clear tape on the reverse.
