The all-time points leader for the Chicago Blackhawks franchise, Stan Mikita rose to stardom during the club’s Stanley Cup championship of 1961. Throughout the rest of the decade and into the 1970s, he perennially ranked among the NHL’s top scorers and regularly added hardware to his trophy case. An icon in the Windy City, Mikita retired early in the 1979-80 season and was welcomed to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983, and later passed in 2018. We have a desirable “banana hook” stick used by the Black Hawks star in the mid-to-late-1960s. A Northland Custom Pro Glass Fused model, “Mikita” is stamped to the mid-shaft, with “MIK” also handwritten along the underside edge at the heel. Void of any tape, the stick shows wear including a few marks to the blade and additional wear to the shaft and handle – with scratches to the handle, with a lighter area where tape may have originally been placed. The stick has also been varnished from top to bottom, with a small hole drilled near the heel, likely from a former display.
