Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

One of the most patriotic jerseys ever produced, resplendent in the colours of Uncle Sam with American stars affixed throughout, this Washington Capitals specimen has use attributed to Bryan Watson in the late-1970s. Wilson labeling with “44” sizing is affixed to the collar. Featuring “Washington Capitals” across the chest in single twill letters, “19” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with evidence of a former nameplate to the upper reverse. Exhibiting thorough game-use, there are marks to the front and sleeves along with some minor blue paint transfer near the right cuff, with team repairs visible. Examples are situated on the front (3), reverse (9) and sleeves (4). There is also pilling to the interior, with some of the stitching having let go on the reverse "1". Additionally, we should note that Watson wore #19 for the Capitals in 1976-77 after being acquired in a trade with the Red Wings (Steve Self wore it briefly too in 1976-77 - played a total of 3 games). Watson also wore it in 1977-78 and in 1978-79 prior to him signing with the WHA Stingers on March 1, 1979, while Chuck Arnason also wore #19 in 1978-79 for the Capitals in which he played 13 games – he was traded from the North Stars to the Capitals on March 13, 1979. A 1978-79 Caps media guide is included.
