Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The first championship bearing the trademark and officially known as the “Super Bowl”, taking place at the Orange Bowl in Miami, on January 12, 1969, Super Bowl III featured the AFL-champion New York Jets battling the NFL-champion Baltimore Colts. Legendary due to the boast by Joe Namath guaranteeing victory for his team, the Jets backed-up Broadway Joe’s words with a 16-7 win despite the Colts being favoured by 19 ½. We have a Super Bowl III ticket stub that has been signed on the reverse by Johnny Carson, along with a team-issued photo of Namath with facsimile signature. With the ticket originating from HOFer Frank Gifford according to our consignor, Carson has signed the reverse in blue ballpoint, with the signature displaying well. The ticket itself shows heavy wear including numerous creases along with a somewhat rough-torn edge. The Namath photo shows light wear with toning to the reverse.
