Well, mostly high grade and appearing as though they have been looked through only two or three times over the years are the 1984-85 O-Pee-Chee cards up for grabs here, with NM-MT-or-better cards abounding. Intermittent very lightly touched corners render a small percentage NM or NM+, but sharp corners and unblemished immaculate surfaces are what you can anticipate, for the most part, along with O-Pee-Chee’s standard not-always-precise centering. Unfortunately, some of the set’s most important cards are notable condition exceptions. Steve Yzerman’s rookie card has centering issues, along with three small surface indentations, while Doug Gilmour’s RC has an edge ding (lower left, near “Doug”) and a somewhat rough left edge. We’d say both shy of NM, similar to a Cam Neely RC (top right corner ding). Chris Chelios (NM) and Pat Lafontaine (NM-MT) rookies and ten different Wayne Gretzky cards (a similar-to-Gilmour edge notch is spotted when inspecting his regular (#243) issue) are also noteworthy, as is 213-Mark Messier, affected by production-caused wrinkles. From a season that saw 208-point man Gretzky and his Edmonton teammates drink from Lord Stanley’s bowl for the second straight year, these classics will be enjoyable to peruse.
