Just back from Baseball Card Exchange headquarters where it was inspected and certified as containing (48) unopened packs is this nifty old wax box from 1977-78, with O-Pee-Chee upping its pack price to 15 cents that season, ending the seven-year 10-cent-a-pack era. However, kids/collectors discovered 12 cards per pack, up from eight the previous year, along with a glossy insert and of course, a stick of gum. The wrappers featured a Ken Dryden-like rendition, while the 396-card set’s roster is led by Orr, Dryden, Lafleur and Trottier, with a couple of Mikes, Palmateer and Milbury, tops among the over four dozen rookie cards. With a Capitals vs. Sabres-like depiction on the top, the offered box exhibits some corner/edge wear and creasing, notably in the area of a dinged corner (top left corner when viewing the bottom), up from BBCE’s identifying label and certification number/sticker. Light scuffing to the box top is also to mention, as is an original price sticker on a side panel that has a stamped “510” (5 dollars, 10 cents) just below “MEAT” – ha! You’ll also be grinning when this groovy piece is delivered.
