One the eve of the franchise’s 50th anniversary season, the Toronto Maple Leafs concluded the 1965-66 NHL campaign in third place behind Montreal and Chicago, and were defeated by the Habs in the Stanley Cup playoffs. HOFers Frank Mahovlich and Bob Pulford led the club in scoring, with fellow enshrined member Johnny Bower earning 18 wins. Hailing from the personal collection of Norm Scully, this stick has been team-signed by the 1965-66 Toronto Maple Leafs. A generic straight-blade model made for a right-hand shooter with no maker’s marks and an intact striping accent over the lower shaft, approx 18 have signed one side of the shaft in ballpoint, with “Best Wishes Norm” over the lower shaft. Signers include deceased HOFers Horton (clean and bold example with no issues) Armstrong, Kelly, Stanley, Pronovost, Bower and Al Arbour, along with Pulford, Keon, Mahovlich, Ellis, Hillman, Selby, Boyer, Douglas, Stemkowski, Kurtenbach and Bobby Baun. The signature present wonderfully, with the stick remaining in gorgeous like-new condition, with just a few indentations to the blade. A signed LOA from Norm Scully will accompany.
Joining the Toronto Nationals of the Metro Junior B Hockey League in 1974-75 as a team trainer, Norm Scully spent a trio of seasons serving the club, including in 1976-77 when the team was renamed the Seneca Nationals and was graced by the presence of none other than Wayne Gretzky. We offer a number of items from Scully’s personal holdings from his time as trainer, including desirable pucks he collected from both the NHL and WHA.
