An especially noteworthy maker during the era and one of the first companies to offer both built-up one-side and paddle goal sticks, St Mary’s Wood Specialty Company began producing sticks in the early-1900s and were known for their attractive scroll banner logo inverted over the heel. The company manufactured right and left hand models specifically for forward and defense players under unique names, including “Loudenfield” and “Elephant”. This St Mary’s one-piece paper label stick hails from the late-1910s and sports the full original label to the upper shaft, with the familiar scroll over the heel, “Right” stamped to the lower shaft for a right-hand player – much rarer than left-hand specimens – and “Hand Made” over the pinned blade. The stick remains in excellent condition, showing light use with marks to the blade and shaft, with the majority of the label intact.
