Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Established in the 16th century as a fortified village on the island of Montreal, Hochelaga survives to the present day in namesake as Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, a Montreal neighborhood. Hailing from the personal collection of noted photography historian Mark Rucker, this extremely large and visually stunning master photograph pictures the 1923 Hochelaga Baseball Club. Originally made to use as a master copy to produce additional cabinet photos, the massive 29” x 40” image features affixed 3 ½” x 5” oval portrait images, along with hand-drawn ball and bat motifs. The photographer Planthier is listed along the base with his St Catherine Street address in Montreal, with the exceptional photograph showing some minor surface wear, with a bit of water staining also visible in spots. We cannot stress how utterly rare master photographs are, which each serving as a unique creation and signature work of the photographer, with the overwhelming majority never intended to see the light of day. Please note that due to the size and/or weight, special shipping arrangements may be required.
