Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

Boasting the rookie cards of four men who would go on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame is Topps’ 1957-58 hockey card effort, with goalie extraordinaire Glenn Hall tops among them. With less-than-precise centering and miscut on the back is the otherwise EX example here, while Norm Ullman (EX-MT) and Pierre Pilote (EX+) RCs are a notch or two superior and also have attractive unblemished surfaces. Johnny Bucyk’s RC (F) is one of a few low grade condition exceptions, with light creasing, a scuffed surface and a smidgen of paper loss on the back among its flaws. Three cards are in SGC holders labeled “84 NM”; #s 9-Labine, 14-Simmons RC and 84-Cahan. Most of the rest are crease-free and in the VG-EX to EX range, with small amounts of VG and VG+ representatives also involved, along with EX+ and better examples. VG+ is how we rate the Terry Sawchuk (small corner crease) and Gordie Howe entries, the latter exhibiting cracking in the top border. Not quite making it to VG are a couple of commons, along with the first (1-Chevrefils) and last (66-Creighton) cards. All backs are problem-free and contribute to a rather pleasing mid-grade ensemble.
