A classic pose of Hall of Famer Ace Bailey is featured here on a card offered by Toronto’s Canadian Chewing Gum company, with the “Hockey Picture Gum” cards one of the more challenging issues from 1933-34. It would be Bailey’s final season as he was injured in a famous incident involving Eddie Shore but since he had not appeared on a trading card in prior seasons, the card is considered a rookie card. It’s an acceptable low grade (P) example with multiple creases but no writing, holes, tears or paper loss. Accompanying Ace are close to two dozen Diamond Match matchbook covers, all of them encapsulated by SGC and dominated by players from long-gone teams. All are “Type 1” examples and all but four are graded VG 3, with HOFers Ching Johnson and Red Dutton leading a New York Americans six-pack, the others being Burke, Conn, Gracie and Himes. The short-lived St. Louis Eagles are represented by HOFer Syd Howe, along with Ayres, Beveridge, Bowman, Brydson, Finnigan, Frew, Kaminsky and Shannon, with the Black Hawks (Burke, Gottselig, Kendall) and Rangers (Connolly) also involved. Completing are four slabbed GOOD 2; duplicates of Ayres and Brydson, as well as Brydge (NYA) and Cook (CHI). Varying degrees/amounts of scratches to the SGC holders are to note.
