Cards from the early-1980s, collected by a Pepsi-Cola drinker(!) and then cards from the late-‘80s comprise this had-one-owner stash, with nothing destined for the pro graders. Expect mostly a VG to EX range, with smaller percentages better/worse and a near set of ’80-81s shy of 29 cards for completion. Keys are Messier (VG-EX) and Bourque (VG) rookie cards and a second-year Gretzky card at G, with some stars and secondary rookie cards among 250+ duplicates. A well-centered and EX Paul Coffey RC headlines a near set from ’81-82 (395/396), with the aforementioned condition for the rest, accompanied by over 500 extras, with stars/RCs and duplication also present, although some rookies/cards have ink transfer on the fronts. A Ron Francis RC is one of 63 cards missing from a gathering of ’82-83s, with Fuhr and Hawerchuk RCs but VG, while this time, 250+ extras are in the mix. Things then skip to an ’87-88 set missing one card and with a VG-EX Robitaille RC, a set from ’88-89 (the Hull RC does not have a yellow dot on the push-pin) and two from ’89-90, with 250+ duplicates of the latter present. Corner touches and handling deny the late-‘80s high grade status as well, while over 200 Pepsi caps from ’80-81 include caps from both 10-ounce and 26-ounce bottles, with the Oilers (41) winning the quantity battle and featuring one (10 oz.) Messier cap, while the other Canadian teams are each represented by between two and three dozen caps. Cheers – you’ll need a drink (with caffeine) while sifting through these classic O-Pee-Chee blasts from the past and the dozens of bottle caps.
