Lumber that saw action during the Montreal Canadiens historic Stanley Cup championship season of 1929-30 is offered, with an extremely rare stick used by Habs defenseman/left winger Georges Mantha that has been team-signed by the Canadiens including legendary superstar Howie Morenz. A full-size generic model with no maker’s marks visible, original period tape remains over the knob, with the outline of the original tape visible on the blade. 13 have signed the shaft in pencil, and we should note that all 13 saw action throughout all 6 games of the playoffs with the Habs including the Stanley Cup Final (only 14 players total saw action in each and every Montreal playoff game, with Gerald Carson the 14th player – and we should additionally mention that there is a fourteenth signer on the stick, with the signature illegible). Signers from the top of the shaft downward include Albert Leduc, Sylvio Mantha, Bert McCaffrey, Wildor Larochelle, Marty Burke, Georges Hainsworth, (another player?), Aurele Joliat, Armand Mondou (not Art Lesieur as on Canadiens LOA), Pete Lepine, Howie Morenz (fairly bold, the best preserved auto on the stick), Nick Wasnie, Georges Mantha and Gus Rivers. Additional handwritten text over the blade states “Hockey used by G. Mantha when Canadiens won the championship of the world at the Forum on April the 3rd 1930”. A hologram is affixed to the shaft, with LOAs to accompany from the Canadiens and JSA, and please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
The stick exhibits heavy wear throughout, with; numerous marks and toning to the shaft; a repaired crack near the handle; a second unrepaired crack midshaft, and an age crack through most of the blade. There is also chipping in areas, including at the tip of the blade.
