This desirable antique 19th century ice skates lot of 4 includes a somewhat rare feature, with each pair sporting brass adornments. The first pair are of English origin and were produced by Williams & Co, with the maker stamped to one blade, with the finished wooden bases sporting front and reverse brass step pads along with a brass hardware adornment. Just a bit of strapping remains on one skate, with the pair showing thorough use including some pitting to the blades. The second pair were produced by Moulson Brothers in Sheffield and feature well-shaped blond wooden bases and thick blades, with a “2” stamped to each base. The pair shows light to moderate use, with the complete front leather straps remaining on each. The third pair are club skates with dark finished bases and no maker’s marks, with front brass step plates, with one skate sporting some of the original strapping (the second skate has a period replacement) and moderate use shown. Pair four were made by noted maker Winslow in Worchester, Mass. Featuring dark finished wooden bases with thick pitted blades and brass step plates (one step plate is missing), the pair show heavy use with “680” stamped to each base (possibly a model number). The final pair were produced for a child, with brass step plates and ankle reinforcements, the maker is stamped to the underside of each dark-finished wooden base (illegible), with the curled-tip blades showing just light use (no strapping remains). Please note that each antique skate lot in our current auction hails from an advanced 19th century skate collection.
