Dubbed "The Great One" when he was just ten years of age and already turning heads with his skills and smarts, Wayne Gretzky was a teenager when he started going up against pros in the World Hockey Association, the league's merger with the National Hockey League bringing the budding Edmonton Oilers' star to the NHL in 1979. Gretzky was putting up a 137-point rookie campaign when youngsters were finding cards like this in their '79-80 O-Pee-Chee packs, with this one exhibiting dings and wear at all four corners. Appealing centering and smooth edges are attributes though and the surface appears unblemished. Wayne tied Marcel Dionne for first place in scoring in '79-80, with Dionne's higher goal total earning him the Art Ross Trophy but after that Wayne led NHL point-getters on ten different occasions - what an era! And what a must for a big-time Gretz or rookie card collection is famous card #18.
