Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Cards from the early-1970s highlight this batch, with a near set of ’71-72 Topps cards shy of a Dryden RC, Orr and the checklist for completion and featuring mostly VG, VG+ and VG-EX examples, sent to that realm more often than not by peripheral wear and not creases. Gordie Howe (VG) and Bobby Hull (VG+) lead the roster, with #3-Scoring Leaders making it to EX and best among the leader cards, most of the latter with a crease. O-Pee-Chee cards from ’72-73 are housed in 9-pocket pages, with Hull, Cheevers and 341-Pinder among the missing two dozen WHA cards at the end and 227-Orr/Park All-Star and cards numbered above 252 accounting for most of the rest. Keys include 59-Lafleur (VG), 129-Orr (VG) and 145-Dryden (F), with some EX-or-better stars (Clarke, Plante, Tony O, Sittler) joined by others – expect a majority in the VG to EX range with some superior, along with four marked checklists. A dozen Post marbles from the late-‘60s can be considered throw-ins given their mostly cracked/damaged state, with a near set of ’84-85 Topps cards (156/165) dominated by EX-MT-or-better examples, although the key rookie cards and two of Gretzky are not present. Two of the four autographed representatives that complete the card portion carry some appeal, with a young Jarome Iginla signing a 1995 Five Sport card and Patrick Marleau’s penmanship enhancing a 1998-98 Be A Player Autographs gold version. Finally, six pucks with Original Six era logos and put out by Molson several years ago have the Hall of Fame logo on the back and have survived in attractive condition. *The ’72-73 OPC missing numbers are as follows: 34, 155, 227-Orr/Park All-Star, 253, 261, 266, 274, 276, 280, 283, 293, 296, 298, 299, 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 308, 310, 311, 313, 315, 316, 317, 318, 321, 323, 326, 328, 331, 336, 340 and 341.
