Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Receiving All-American honours while leading the NCAA in goals in 1961-62, Red Berenson graduated from Michigan's School of Business and starred for the Wolverines for a trio of seasons before later coaching the university for over 30 years. Michigan would capture the conference regular season championship, with Berenson presented with this desirable vintage ring. Size 10 ½ with an approx weight of 15 grams, a gold-coloured Michigan “M” sits over a blue stone on the tableau, with “Big Ten” above, “Champions” below, “Hockey” on the left and “1961-62” on the right. The shanks sports Art Deco style fluting, with "LGB sterling" stamped to the inner band. The ring exhibits light wear with oxidation throughout causing a dark finish along with a small line visible on the band, possibly from a resizing. Berenson led the Wolverines in goals and points in 1961-62, and played his first regular-season and playoff games for the Montreal Canadiens that season. A signed LOA from Red Berenson will accompany.
