Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

More affordable/attainable than Sidney Crosby’s high-end rookie cards is this batch, with all the grading already taken care of and those two important words, “GEM MINT” joined by “9.5” on each Beckett gold label here – nice! While verifying the sub grades we notice that the vast majority of the cards (all but two) include one 10, two 9.5s and one 9, although those scores vary among the centering, corners, edges and surface sub grades, if you follow. The other two have 9.5 sub grades for all except “Corners” (9). The short, curious write-up on the back of card #188 reads, “While most players have a weakness to their game, it’s almost impossible to find one in Crosby’s. He has the talent to score in a flurry, and the Penguins were thrilled to pick him up.” No kidding – three Stanley Cup parades have been held in Pittsburgh thanks in large part to the play and leadership of “Sid the Kid” as he was known back when cards like this were available in packs. The Beckett holders have been well cared for; we hardly spot a scratch or blemish throughout. A splendid opportunity merits ample consideration.
