A standout in college with the University of Maine, where he holds NCAA records for GAA and save percentage, goaltender Jimmy Howard was drafted by Detroit in 2003 and spent his entire career in Motor City. Howard has also represented the US internationally. From just his second season with Detroit where he appeared in 4 regular-season games, we have a photo-matched blocker and glove combo worn by Howard during the Stanley Cup championship season of 2007-08. Reebok models in Red Wings colours with “Howard” embroidered to each, heavy game-use is exhibited on the pair, with puck marks completely covering the face of the blocker and pocket of the glove. Seeing action in only four games and considering the heavy wear present, the blocker and glove were most likely worn with the Grand Rapids Griffins that season as well (Howard played in 54 regular-season games with the Griffins). Howard’s Red Wings equipment bag from an unknown season is also included. Hockeytown holograms have been affixed to the glove and bag, with COAs from the Red Wings to accompany both the blocker/glove and bag.
The equipment bag is in solid red, with a label from supplier Gerry Cosby over the top, with “Detroit Red Wings” screened to one side, and “35” in tackle twill sewn to the other. The bag shows moderate use. Getty Images #76956481 and #76956491 (Sept 21, 2007 vs Pittsburgh) have both been matched to a number of dark marks covering the face of the blocker, the image is also matched to a number of distinct marks within the pocket of the glove, with the image showing very light overall wear to both items at the beginning of the season. Additionally, Getty Image #79752759 (Feb 12, 2008) has been matched to numerous marks on the blocker.
