Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Appearing for Albertan clubs during the late-1960s including the Calgary Buffaloes and Edmonton Oil Kings, Bob McAneeley then spent a pair of seasons with the U of BC Thunderbirds before making his WHA debut with the Alberta Oilers, in 1972-73. From the lone season of his second stint with the WHA club, we have an Oilers jersey worn by the Cranbrook native in 1975-76. Worn for just the first half of the season, with use concluding at the end of December of 1975, the Oilers would wear sweater sets by calendar year and not season, meaning the offered jersey would most likely have been worn first by Mike Rogers in the second half of the 1974-75 season (Jan 1st to the conclusion of the season). A Rawlings label with “44” sizing is affixed to the collar, with a Steichens tag situated over the inside hem. Styled with the classic oil drop team crest in layered tackle twill, “18” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “B. McAneeley” across the affixed nameplate in white twill. There is also evidence of a former nameplate as expected, as per the history of the jersey and the practice of use during calendar years.
Sporting nice game-use with marks and small stains over the front, there are pulls, scuffs and holes over the sleeves, with a small tear to the nameplate and an additional hole directly above. The reverse “8” has had some of the stitching come loose along the top, with a single team repair on the left shoulder. It should also be noted that Mike Rogers’ first/rookie WHA season was 1974-75, he wore the #18 jersey, and he was the team leader for goals (35) and points (83) for the Oilers that season.
