Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Yes, quantity is offered up here but we should tell you right away that quality is not. Four different years of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards are represented, with entries from 1978-79 and ’81-82 leading in terms of both quantity and poor condition, with a majority of cards looking like they were played with in schoolyards and/or playgrounds. Cards from ’80-81 are less plentiful but markedly in better shape, with ’84-85s dominated by lower grade examples. The rookie card report goes like this: Seven Mike Bossy RCs are in the P-F-G range, with a decent looking Mark Messier rookie having a small tear. Two of Paul Coffey (VG, VG+) are much nicer than five hammered ones. Also creased and/or roughed-up are the rookie cards of Mike Gartner, Andy Moog (5), Jari Kurri (2), Denis Savard, Peter Stastny (5), Larry Murphy (2), Dino Ciccarelli, Steve Yzerman (3), Doug Gilmour (5), Chris Chelios (3) and several secondary RCs (Lowe, Hunter, Federko, Sutter, etc.), with a Cam Neely rookie (VG+) more respectable. A decent second-year Wayne Gretzky (’80-81 #250) is VG-EX and joined by 27 others of Wayne, most of them “specials” and creased or multi-creased. The cards are stacked by team in old-time style, with duplication heavy at times. These have obviously been enjoyed, with however still some fun to be had! Some 80 OPC baseball cards from ’78 and ’79 include some stars/Hall of Famers and are tossed into the tub.
