A third-round draft choice of the New York Islanders in 1976, Garth MacGuigan was also selected by the WHA’s Quebec Nordiques, and would spend numerous seasons in the CHL with Fort Worth and Indianapolis. This Checkers jersey was worn by the Charlottetown native in the early-1980s (MacGuigan was with the Checkers from 1979 to 1985). Sandow Sport and laundering labels grace the collar, with the vintage knit jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 54. Styled with a layered tackle twill team crest, “7” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in blue-over-orange twill, with “MacGuigan” over the affixed nameplate in matching material. The Checkers would serve as an affiliate of the New York Islanders from 1979 to 1984.
Sporting heavy game-use, there are a number of puck and stick marks over the front and left sleeve, with a few small unrepaired holes on the lower reverse and sleeves. Desirable team-repairs are also plentiful, with examples over the front (3), reverse (4) and sleeves (2).
