Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

First gracing the Western League from 1969 to 1974, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles later played in both the WHL and IHL, with the club sold to become to Detroit Vipers in 1994. Serving as an affiliate of the NHL’s California Seals from 1972 to 1974, this Golden Eagles jersey originates from the early-to-mid-1970s. A partially-detached Wilson label with “48” sizing is affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present. Styled in the colours of the Seals, “Eagles” appears across the chest in script, administered in layered tackle twill, with “29” sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material. There is evidence of a former nameplate and name, and we should note that the sleeve and reverse numbers were changed, but are all period, with this likely done contemporaneously by the team.
Sporting heavy game-use, there are a few dark marks over the lower front, with material runs and pulls over each sleeve. There is also considerable pilling to areas of both the interior and exterior, with desirable team-repairs situated on the front (1), reverse (3, including a long vertical example) and sleeves (11).
