With Babe Pratt winning the Hart Trophy and Gud Bodnar awarded the Calder Memorial, the Toronto Maple Leafs finished third overall at the conclusion of the 1943-44 NHL season. The addition of legendary star Ted Kennedy who enjoyed his first full season is noteworthy, as he would remain with the club until 1957. This MLG program has been team-signed by the 1943-44 Leafs. Produced for the Dec 4, 1943 tilt against the New York Rangers, Lorne Carr is featured on the cover, with the center line-up intact. 18 have signed the cover in matching Leafs blue, including Kennedy, along with fellow deceased HOFers Pratt, Hap Day and Foster Hewitt, as well as Mel “Sudden Death” Hill, Benny Grant, Gus Bodnar and others.
The additional signers include Don Webster, Tom "Windy" O'Neill, Lorne Carr, Elwin "Moe" Morris, Reg Hamilton, Jack McLean, Jack Ingoldsby, George Boothman, Bob Davidson, Jackie Hamilton and Ross Johnstone. The program does show heavy wear but displays admirably, with the signatures somewhat bunched-up but remaining bold, easily identifiable. The covers are both held in place with two pieces of clear tape, with some creasing and edge tears visible along with toning to the interior pages. As an added bonus, a second MLG program will also accompany, with this specimen featuring Tod Sloan on the cover. Hailing from 1957-58, the program was produced for the Oct 30, 1957 match vs Montreal, with just light wear exhibited throughout.
