Instrumental in the success of the Montreal Canadiens throughout the Original Six era with each considered one of the Habs’ all-time greatest, this lot features a pair of important vintage Montreal Forum programs, with an example from 1947-48 featuring Doug Harvey’s first NHL game, and a specimen hailing from the 1950-51 season that features Jean Beliveau’s first NHL goal! First, the Oct 16, 1947 program vs the New York Rangers is dated to the 1947-48 season by the inclusion of John Quilty in the Habs line-up, with the Ottawa native only seeing 16 games of action with the Canadiens in 1947-48. Harvey is listed in the line-up, with the program further dated to his first game by the Ice Capades advertisement which mentions an engagement at the Forum on Oct 27th. The Canadiens only played the Rangers once between the beginning of the season and the Oct 27th date, on Oct 16th (this was the first Canadiens game of the season). Next, the Jan 27, 1951 program vs Chicago is dated, with Beliveau hand-written in the line-up. The superstar only saw action in two games in 1950-51, scoring a single goal, with this occurring in the Jan 27th contest, confirmed by the official NHL box score. The Harvey program is entirely intact, with all pages firmly attached, with a large vertical crease that runs through the entire publication. The Beliveau program has both the front and back covers almost entirely detached, with toning to the interior and a number of pages loose from the binding. Considering the rarity and historical importance, the condition issues can be overlooked.
