Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Manufactured in Germany but named for their use within the federal dominion of Canada, we offer an especially rare pair of high quality antique hockey skates made by one of the early game’s greatest makers. Henry Boker produced some of the best skates used during the late-19th and early-20th century, with these Dominion models the third best straight steel runner blades produced by the firm, selling at $2.50 per pair. Fully nickel-plated as well as welded and tempered with double end heel supports along with “Puck Stop” (the small extended metal piece near the middle of the blade, it was designed to stop pucks from passing through. This was most commonly seen on skates produced for goaltenders), the blades have “Henry Boker’s Dominion” engraved along with a winged skate monogram, with this to signify the second highest quality produced by the company, with the best welded and hand tempered steel runners. The blades have been affixed to a pair of attractive, extremely high-quality two-tone brown leather boots that sport no makers marks other than the size “9”. Moderate use is exhibited on both the blades and boots, with wear to the material and some light spot rusting to the blades. A pair of small skates with black leather boots and no makers marks produced for a small child will also accompany.
