This NHL All-Star Game stick wielded by Minnesota North Stars left winger Steve Payne in the 1980 game in Detroit was used to score a goal, and is covered with 18 Wales Conference autographs, including the legendary Gordie Howe, who made his final ASG appearance. Payne scored the Wales’ second goal 4:19 into the game and added an assist in the third period of a 6-3 win over the Campbells at the Joe Louis Arena on February 5, 1980. Lafleur, Perreault, Sittler, Dionne, Robinson, Gainey and Ratelle make it a total of 8 Hall of Famers who signed in black marker on the shaft of this Koho gamer, along with Meloche, Edwards, Hartsburg, Cloutier, Goring, Gare, Larson, Stackhouse, Murphy and Burrows. “Payne” is stamped on the front of the shaft and his No. “26” is written in black marker below his white tape knob. The original black tape job on the blade shows wear through the bottom edge. More game use shows in black marks low on the shaft and at the heel of the blade. Steve Payne’s signed letter of authenticity will accompany this game-used All-Star goal stick, team-signed by the 1980 Wales, including Mr. Hockey, who fittingly made his final ASG appearance in Motown.
