Mike Gartner was incredibly consistent while scoring a staggering 708 NHL goals over the course of his 19-year career. After scoring 27 goals in his 1978-79 pro debut as an 18-year-old with the WHA’s Cincinnati Stingers, Mike set an NHL record by scoring 30 goals or more in each of his first 15 seasons in the league with Washington, Minnesota, the New York Rangers and Toronto, and also holds the mark for most 30-goal seasons with 17. This lot of two signed Gartner items includes Mike’s game-used Louisville Graphite that originates from his time with Phoenix, with this model used his final two NHL seasons. The longtime sniper has added the notations “708” and “HOF 2001”, the latter referencing the year he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, to his silver paint pen signature. A MeiGray registry holofoil is affixed below the autograph on the bottom of the front of the shaft of this two-piece composite. Mike’s tape jobs remain intact on the knob and blade insert, which has “Gartner” stamped in white on the front. This gamer displays nice wear, particularly on the crack-free bottom edge of the taped blade. Also included is a framed signed photo of Gartner in action with Phoenix towards the end of his HOF career. Mike has signed in black marker on the 8” x 10” shot which is displayed in a green-and-textured-adobe double matte within a 14 ¾” x 17 ¼” black frame.
